Theresa's Connection to Global Shapers
When did you join Global Shapers? April 2016
What interested you in joining Global Shapers? I wanted to join a forum that enabled me to enhance my community involvement on a local and international scale, and which provided the resources to do so as well as a network of other young leaders to work with.
What are the current projects you are involved in, and why? One of my main duties in the hub is to work on our media outreach and to create networks between our hub, community leaders, and other hubs. I'm frequently updating our facebook page, twitter and instagram, and I'm behind a lot of the changes and blog posts you'll see on this website. In the future, I'm most interested in working on the mentorship project as well as the social impact investing project. In addition, right now, I'm on secondment to the Amsterdam hub, where we work on interesting projects related to charity organizations in the city, and rotate through different "working group" meetings each month. This is a really interesting opportunity to get to experience a new culture, meet new people, and learn different ways in which global shapers can work together to build better communities.
What do you hope to achieve through Global Shapers? I hope to enhance the idea of "global cities", through which we can all come together to address similar problems and develop creative solutions. I also hope to make a real impact in our Calgary community to increase it's visibility and involvement world wide.
Theresa & Calgary
Is Calgary your hometown? No - I'm originally from Sarnia, Ontario.
What do you like best about our City? The diversity of the food scene, and the frequency with which new cuisines and restaurants are being introduced.
What do you think is the biggest issue facing Calgarians right now? Economic diversification (which also impacts employment opportunities, environmental change, and open-mindedness).
What issue do you want to tackle next in our community? Facilitating open-mindedness and a desire to think about the bigger picture - and not just the struggles within our own community.
