Once Upon a Christmas

Since opening its doors in 1964, Heritage Park has been a successful living history museum in Calgary as guests of all ages have the opportunity to interact with nearly 100 years of history. Once Upon a Christmas at the Park has been touching many children's heart for years. This Christmas, Global Shapers from the Calgary Hub volunteered at the Kids Only Store on the last day of the Park's unforgettable Christmas event. At the store, only children were allowed in, so that they could purchase Christmas gifts for their family and friends.

The YYC Shapers provided heart-warming services to the young customers as personal shopping assistants and gift wrapping specialists. Shapers guided the children to understand the concept of a budget, to follow a shopping list, to compare prices and calculate total price of items in the shopping basket, to safeguard their valuables, to develop teamwork and negotiation tactics by sharing budgets with siblings, and to socialize with strangers. The smile on the children's and their parents' face was the best reward for our Shapers!

We hope these children will grow up remembering a lovely, and the first for many, shopping experience for a gift to their loved ones. We also hope they will remember the friendly and caring volunteers who helped them, and they are inspired to give back to the community when they can!
